For decades, passengers arriving at Didcot Parkway station have been greeted by a view of Didcot Power Station from the platforms.

Work began on the power station in 1964, it was commissioned from 1968 and connected to the national grid in 1970. It was capable of producing 2000 MW of power. Originally only coal-fired, capability to burn gas was added later, and the station also burnt some biomass.
