Greyfriars Bobby

Greyfriars Bobby

4 July 2007

Bobby was a Skye Terrier dog who spent 14 years in the 19th century sitting at his late master's grave. He is commemorated by this statue, which is Grade A listed.

Greyfriars Bobby was famous even in his day. When the Lord Provost of Edinburgh heard that Bobby was illegal, without a collar of ownership, he personally paid for the necessary licence and collar. The collar can be seen on display in the Museum of Edinburgh.
