Hu Xueyan (胡雪岩, 1823-1885) was a wealthy businessman, active in banking, ship-building, and import and export of silk, tea and herbal medicines. His house was built in 1872, and is a large complex that covers over 10 acres, including extensive gardens with a large pool and artificial caves. The house was restored by the provincial government and opened to the public in 2001.
