The original Leifeng Pagoda (雷峰塔) was constructed in 975 AD but collapsed in 1925. The modern pagoda opened in 2002. The ruins of the old structure can be viewed in the basement. The pagoda is a popular tourist attraction, and its position on the skyline above the West Lake, illuminated at night, mean it is a regular feature of photographs of the area.
