Three Pools Mirroring the Moon

19 July 2009

In the West Lake, south of Fairy Island, stand three stone pagodas with circular openings that mark the best place for viewing the full moon. When lit with candles on a night of the full moon, they can give the impression of three reflections of the moon in the lake. "Three Pools Mirroring the Moon" is one of the famous Ten Scenes of the West Lake, and is pictured on the back of the current 1 yuan note.
