Grand Hyatt atrium - looking up
Shanghai
25 July 2009
The Shanghai Grand Hyatt hotel occupies floors 53 to 87 of the Jin Mao Tower. The centrepiece of the hotel is the spectacular atrium that extends from the 56th to the 87th floor, 115 metres high and 27 metres in diameter. Each of the hotel floors has a circular corridor open to the atrium, with two small semi-circular balconies offset slightly on each floor to produce a spiralling effect. At the foot of the atrium on the 56th floor is the Patio Lounge, from where this picture was taken. At the top, visitors to the public observation deck can look down into the atrium through a skylight, seen in the centre of this picture.
