St Enodoc's Church
Cornwall
Saint Enodoc's lies in sand dunes above Padstow Bay, on the opposite side of the Camel Estuary to the town of Padstow itself. The wind has blown sand into banks that are now level with the roof of the church and help to protect it. The churchyard is the final resting place of Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman.
In the distance, it is possible to make out the shape of a sand bar in the river estuary. This so called "doom bar" built up across Padstow Harbour entrance, and prevented the town from achieving its full potential as a port.
