Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian's Wall was constructed by the Romans in AD 122-126 under the emperor Hadrian (76-138). It was built to mark the northern boundary of England, and to keep out invading forces from Scotland. The wall ran 185 km right from the west coast to the east.

The picture shows one of the best preserved parts of the wall. There are also a number of ruined Roman forts along its length, many of which are open to the public.
