Palace of Holyroodhouse

3 July 2007

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the Queen's principal residence in Scotland. It is used by the Queen or other members of the royal family on state occasions; at other times it is open to the public. The palace is situated at the end of the Royal Mile, opposite the Scottish Parliament.

This view of the front of the palace can be found on many postcards on sale in the city, yet it was taken through the bars of the gates to the palace. That makes me wonder whether the postcard photographer was only able to visit on a day the Queen was there (and so the palace closed to visitors); or whether he simply didn't want to pay the entry fee.
