Roman Catholic Cathedral

17 June 2003

The Metropolitan Cathedral, as it is known, was completed in 1967, having taken just five years to build. After an earlier, grandiose scheme by Sir Edwin Lutyens was abandoned due to escalating cost with only the crypt completed, a competition for a new design was held and this design by Sir Frederick Gibberd was chosen.
