From Wittenham Clumps

18 October 2008

One you move further away from Didcot, it is clear just how much the power station dominates the otherwise rural landscape. Sir Frederick Gibberd designed it with two groups of cooling towers rather than one single, dense block in order to reduce its impact. His other buildings include Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and London Central Mosque, and some people have nicknamed the power station "Cathedral of the Vale".

This photo was taken from the Wittenham Clumps, one of the most prominent local natural landscape features.
