Holyrood Palace and Firth of Forth

5 July 2007

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is directly opposite the Scottish Parliament. The Royal Standard can be seen flying from the flagpole, which indicates that the Queen is in residence, just as it does at Buckingham Palace. Here it is the Scottish version of the Standard, with two quarters representing Scotland (on a yellow background) rather than the version with two red quarters used throughout the rest of the United Kingdom. When the Queen is not in residence, the all-yellow Royal Standard of Scotland is flown instead.

The gates in the bottom left corner are from where the photo of the front of the palace was taken.
